Preparing for your performance

Rather like a video presentation, choose one or two pieces which you can play reasonably well and prepare them so you can perform them confidently during the session. In a twenty minute monitoring session a five to ten minute performance is usually enough for us to discuss different aspects of your playing.

Please email me a copy of any music you will be playing well before the session to give me time to prepare. And if there is a specific topic about your playing which you would like me to discuss with you, please mention this in the email.

During the course of our session I may suggest a direction you could take with your playing generally and also set a specific task for you to prepare for the following session.

Setting up the camera

The camera built in your laptop is usually enough to work with. Try to find a space where it's quiet and where you won't get interrupted. Also where you can set enough distance between you and the laptop so I can see a full shot of your playing (i.e. with you sitting facing the camera with feet, head and both hands in full view).

To make the best of the time we have – before the session begins, make sure your guitar is in tune, you have set up and tested any necessary equipment and that you have all the music you will need at hand.
